Who's who

Kanishka Raffel – Rector

Kanishka was born in London to Sri Lankan parents and was raised as a Buddhist. While studying law at Sydney University a friend gave him a copy of The Gospel according to John and he subsequently became a Christian. Kanishka has served as Rector of St Matthew’s since 1999. He is married to Cailey and they have two daughters. He loves curry, cricket and having gelato at the beach with his family but knows no pleasure so great as sharing the news about Jesus with people who have no idea who Jesus is or how much he loves them.

Rory Shiner – Associate Minister

Rory is responsible for the two University-based congregations of St Matthew's, Unichurch and Unichurch International. He was born in Albany, and moved to Perth aged thirteen. Being on the staff at St Matthew's means that he now gets to live and work in the same postcode he grew up in. He is married to Susan and they have three small sons, Miles, Theodore and Oscar.

Ben Underwood – Associate Minister

Ben oversees the wonderful 5pm congregation, and seeks to see everyone there, himself included, grow in spiritual maturity. Ben is married to Michelle and they have two (delightful) children. Jennie worked as a teacher before signing up as an intern with Unichurch in 2008. This year she’s working with the women and working age members of Unichurch, as well as studying part time at Trinity Theological College.

Mary Jane Turner – Children’s Minister

Mary Jane Turner oversees the 4-10 year old Children's Ministry at St Matthew's Rosalie. She has just completed a Graduate Diploma of Divinity at Trinity College after having spent a year doing a ministry apprenticeship in Oxford at St Ebbe's Church. She has a Bachelor of Music Education and in addition to doing the Children's ministry, she will be teaching Music, Art and the Bible at St Augustine's School in the Swan Valley.
