There are lots of ways to get involved and serve at Unichurch. As a community of believers it's our job to build one another up to maturity, we all have a role to play in loving, serving and encouraging the people at Unichurch and our sister congregations at St Matts. Here are just a few of the ways that you might be able to get inolved and serve.
Solid Rock is the Junior Youth Group for St Matthew’s Church. It is for young people in school years 6-8 and runs on a Friday Night and Sunday Morning during the school term. We usually have around 20 kids on a Friday night, and 30 on a Sunday morning. Some are from Christian Families in the church and others are friends of the kids from school. We enjoy hanging out together, eating food, playing games and learning more about Jesus from hearing bible talks, doing bible studies and praying together. We pray the kids will understand the truths about Jesus let them impact their lives. Volunteers from the Unichurch congregation run Solid Rock. They sign up to help for the year giving up their Friday nights and Sunday mornings. This allows them to really get to know the young people by not only giving talks and running the bible studies, but also playing games, eating and talking with them. For more information contact Ali Lydon.
One of the best things Unichurch does is 121 bible studies. This is where two people regularly meet up, have a coffee, chat and open the bible. Together they work at understanding the bible, what it’s saying about God and how it impacts their lives. They then pray together and encourage each other to keep living for Christ. Simple, but life-changing! Just ask someone who’s done a 121 how good they are. For more information about how to sign up for a 121 bible study contact Jennie Tate (girls) or Jon Rumble (guys)
Being on the music team at Unichurch is all about singing to each other and to God about who he is and what he has done for us, primarily in Jesus. We aim to have songs that speak the truth of scripture so that the word of Christ may dwell in us richly (Col 3:16) and play them in a way that allows Unichurchers to sing those truths with all the emotion and passion that they stir up in us. If you're a muso or sound tech with a commitment to seeing other Christians built up in Christ, consider serving your fellow Unichurchers by being on a music team. For more info about being involved with music at Unichurch contact Scott Robinson.
Supper is served each week after Unichurch. Volunteering in the Supper Ministry is a wonderful way to get to know fellow Unichurchers, encourage others and actively demonstrate love for one another. We need enthusiastic, servant- hearted and reliable volunteers to help out with Supper; this involves once each month bringing along a plate of treats you have bought or baked yourself to share with fellow Unichurchers. Everyone is divided up into supper 'teams', on a 4 week cycle. Please prayerfully consider whether this is an area that you could be involved in! If you have any questions, want further information or would like to sign up for any of these opportunities please contact Lil D'sylva.
Kids Church is so much fun! Each Sunday about 40-50 kids aged 4-10 are taught the Bible, sing songs to God, watch puppets shows and dramas at the St Matthews Church building. This is only made possible because of a highly motivated, dedicated, diligent and passionate Leaders Team of Unichurch members. We prefer leaders to commit to a year so that the children are able to have continuity with their leaders and build a relationship with them. Kids Church is every Sunday morning 9.30-12.30 for the School terms only. (approx 9 week terms). The whole Kids Church meet together from 10.15-10.50am and then the kids break into small age groups where the leaders do a short Bible study, craft, game and prayer with them. After Church there is a Leaders Bible study from 11.45-12.30 in order to help with preparation for the following week. The leaders are encouraged to pray regularly for the kids they teach to grow to know and love and serve the Lord Jesus. If you would like to be involved or want to know more about this vital ministry please contact Mary Jane Bull.
Australia is one of the few countries in the world where you can walk into a public school and teach a class about Jesus. This is an amazing privilege, and a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel with kids that have never heard it before. Lots of people at St Matthew’s teach scripture in primary schools in the Western Suburbs. Teaching Scripture doesn’t take a lot of effort or preparation. The lessons run for half an hour, and all the materials are provided. You get a book with a detailed lesson plan for each session, and the kids each get a colourful workbook with a range activities for each lesson. It’s as easy as reading over the lesson plan, collecting any extra materials you want to use, and spending half an hour with a bunch of kids. Anyone can teach scripture in a primary school - you don’t need to be a qualified teacher or have a degree in theology. Please prayerfully consider whether you could use an hour of your week to share the gospel with thirty kids. Contact Jennie for more info.
